Mollie Hemingway: Justice Alito Is The Quiet Giant Behind Court’s Conservative Turn
Mollie Hemingway, the editor-in-chief of The Federalist news site, joined this week’s edition of “Get Real” with David Desrosiers to talk about her new book on Justice Alito: “Alito: The Justice Who Reshaped the Supreme Court and Restored the Constitution” “Some of the justices that we interviewed said they were shocked that nobody had written about Alito because he was this giant on the Court, and people should know more about him,” she said. “He’s so quiet and so shy and so reserved, nobody ever talks about him. And then he’ll have these absolute landmark decisions.” “A lot of people admire and love Justice Thomas, and his clear and principled thinking in his opinions, concurrences, dissents. He and Alito tend to be aligned, but not always,” she said. “Thomas is very focused on principle and philosophy. Alito is more pragmatic and prudential. He may agree with Thomas about where he wants things to be, but he thinks about: how do we get a majority to move along that path to get there?”
