Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman tells Greta Van Susteren on the Newsmax podcast that he doesn’t want the Democratic Party “big tent” to include the “deeply unserious, deeply ridiculous hypocrites” he sees among the Democratic Socialists. “I strongly reject these kinds of people. I think that makes me a good Democrat. But I think that makes me a reasonable and a common-sense Democrat, because these are the kind of people that are not the future of a party — unless I don’t have a future in that party,” Fetterman said.

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: Now, when you say the Democrats give you some heat – are you talking about, like, Democratic Party voters, or Democrats in the U.S. Senate? Do they try to put pressure? Do they say, you know, “Let’s have a talk”? Do they talk to you about this? SEN. JOHN FETTERMAN: No. None of my colleagues in Washington, D.C., but people in the media, or that I’ve heard even secondhand, that they were angry about – you know, like, “You’re a traitor,” or, “You’re a Republican,” or, “You are betraying” – you know, it’s just absurd. I mean, I represent a purple state. I represent a state. I don’t just represent Democrats in Pennsylvania. And now, for me, I’m happy and proud to defend any vote that I’ve ever made right now over that. So that’s what I try to remind my voters. Like, you know, if you’re a Democrat, we used to be the party to refuse to shut our government down. That is a bad thing. Now then, we turned our back on that. GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: I think you’re quoted – correct me if I’m wrong – saying the Democrats have become the party of elites. And the reason, if I’m correct on that quote, is it reminds me because when I grew up, the Democrats were sort of the lunch-pail – and now a lot of them are going to country clubs. I mean, of course they should be allowed to go to country clubs, but I mean just the idea that they used to be more the working man, and it seems now – and I hate to generalize – but the Republicans have taken over that a little bit more. SEN. JOHN FETTERMAN: No, yeah. Look, that’s absolutely accurate. And you look at some of those terrible DSA types, you know, if you look at their backgrounds, fancy-pants backgrounds, you know, their parents. Like that idiot in New York, the co-chair. You know, Daddy bought him a house for $ 1.5 million, and they’re rehabbing that. You know, this is Mr. Socialism. And I mean, like, the irony of it. And abolish the border, abolish prisons, abolish the Senate, abolish blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I mean, not only are they deeply unserious, but they’re deeply ridiculous kinds of hypocrites. But also, they are part of this party and a rising part of my party. You know, I am not a big-tent person if it includes people like that. And for me, like, form your own party and stop. You know, these are the kind of people that, for average voters, they – you know, why Democrats have kind of lost the plot. You know, if we’re willing to entertain idiots like that. GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: What happened to the Democratic Party that they’re willing to entertain – because some of those are pretty extremist, the DSA. I mean, and nobody’s condemning him. I mean, there’s a lot of things said out in the Senate race in Michigan about – and, you know, Hassan, for instance, was supporting the candidate who won there. But there was not a lot of public condemnation within the party. Are Democrats afraid to – I mean, what happened? SEN. JOHN FETTERMAN: Yeah, absolutely. Hey, I remember, I’m the one Democrat that called that out. I mean, we have a lot of great Democratic candidates on the map, but I was the guy that called out the rapist piece of garbage in Maine. And then I’ll say the same thing, and I’ll condemn and call out El-Sayed in Michigan, too. Now, as we come up on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, you know, remember that this is the guy that believes that America deserved that, and El-Sayed is like his best buddy. And they spent the entire primary campaigning with him and embracing it. They have these extreme anti-America, anti-Israel, and really now increasingly anti-capitalism – I mean, all of these extreme views – and the Democratic Party are choosing these people. I strongly reject these kinds of people. I think that makes me a good Democrat. But I think that makes me a reasonable and a common-sense Democrat, because these are the kind of people that are not the future of a party, unless I don’t have a future in that party.
