Trump on Psychedelic Treatment For Depression: “Can I Have Some?” “I Don’t Have Time To Be Depressed”
President Donald Trump was surprised to read on Saturday, during the announcement of an executive order fast-tracking psychedelics for treating mental health conditions (full video here), that some studies have suggested ibogaine has an 80-90% effectiveness at treating depression and anxiety. “Can I have some, please? I’ll take it. I’ll take whatever it takes. I don’t have time to be depressed,” Trump said. “You know, if you stay busy enough, maybe that works too. That’s what I do.”
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Because the pricing-not only is it important, but the pricing is going good-and you’re going to get the rescheduling done, right? Please, will you get the rescheduling done? You know they’re slow-walking me on the rescheduling. Okay? You’re going to get it done, right? In a 2024 study from Stanford University, 30 special operations veterans with traumatic brain injuries underwent what’s called ibogaine treatment-ibogaine. Remember the name. Is that pronounced relatively properly, what you said? I don’t want to get it wrong. Ibogaine-because it’s so important-and experienced an 80 to 90% reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety within one month. Can I have some, please? I’ll take it. I’ll take whatever it takes. I don’t have time to be depressed, you know. If you stay busy enough, maybe that works too. That’s what I do. Republican leaders have already committed $ 50 million to ibogaine research, and today the federal government is making a $ 50 million research investment of its own. That was just approved last night.
