Two UFC hopefuls get second chance on Dana White's Contender Series

Two UFC hopefuls are getting a second shot at Dana White's Contender Series.

Heavyweights Mario Piazzon and Guilherme Uriel will collide on the Aug. 25 episode at Meta APEX in Las Vegas.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Piazzon (10-1) is a training partner of former UFC heavyweight contender Jailton Almeida. He competed on DWCS in 2023 and won via disqualification. The performance drew criticism from some, including UFC CEO Dana White. Since then, Piazzon has gone 3-1 with two TKOs.

Uriel (7-2) competed on DWCS in 2025 when he was knocked out by Josh Hokit. Since that loss, Uriel has only fought once but it was an emphatic 96-second knockout of Leonardo Fraga at LFA 229 in March.

The two fighters combine for 14 career finishes in 17 wins.

No other fights have been announced for the Aug. 25 episode at this time.
