On “Hannity,” Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson argued that the rise of democratic socialism is being driven by affluent elites rather than working-class Americans, calling it “a train wreck” for the Democratic Party.

SEAN HANNITY, HOST: Here with reaction, Hoover Institution senior fellow, the great Victor Davis Hanson. You know, by the way, liberals, the left, they’re always generous with other people’s money. I think Bernie has plenty to give away if he wanted to. He doesn’t have to fly in a private jet. Not that I begrudge him that except he doesn’t like them for other people to have. And as Margaret Thatcher famously said, yeah, okay, socialism is great until you run out of other people’s money, which is inevitable also. VICTOR DAVIS HANSON, HOOVER INSTITUTION SENIOR FELLOW: Yeah, this is a top-down phenomenon, Sean. And it’s mostly 85 percent of the membership of the Democratic socialists are identify as white and the majority are — have college degrees and they’re very frustrated that their brilliance wasn’t recognized or appreciated in these very expensive urban enclaves where they live. But they’re all wealthy. I mean, Mamdani is a single child. He grew up in privilege. His family was among the one percent in Uganda. They have a family compound on Lake Victoria. Ro Khanna now is flirting with socialism. His wife drives a $ 200,000 Range Rover. He — the kids have golf courses in their names. We could go on and on and on. Hasan Piker, he bought a almost a $ 3 million home in West Hollywood. He drives a Porsche. So, it’s not coming from the working class. It’s not coming from minorities necessarily. It’s coming from an affluent group of people, and second and first generation people that are migrating — immigrating here, Chevalier, Mamdani, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib who left failed states and they come over here and apparently they want to reenact the mass — the disaster they fled from. It makes no sense, but they’re not going to identify the politician part. They don’t want to identify as socialist or communist because it’s a death knell in a race. But the people who are egging them on are the non- politician. Hasan Piker, you know, you got to be brave. You got to tell everybody you’re a communist. See that, try that and see how you do in anywhere — outside of New York or Denver or Cambridge, Mass. I don’t think you’ll do very well. So — HANNITY: You know — HANSON: — it’s a disaster. This is a train wreck for the Democratic Party. HANNITY: Well, I’m taking it seriously. I have a hard time believing that hardworking men and women will buy into this insanity and radicalism. However, I view it as a serious threat. What I’m telling people here on this show and on my radio show and anywhere I can is that you better take this midterm election year seriously because if you stay home, these people can win. If they win, they want to alter the America as we know it. So, I’m telling people to get out to vote. By the way, the president’s not wrong. You know, hopefully we can get the save act passed and add integrity to our voting system. I hope — I hope that happens. I hear they’re getting closer. HANSON: Yeah, absolutely. The Democratic Party’s agenda doesn’t really ever get 51 percent of the people. So, they have various ways of getting around that. They control the media. They control K through 12, the universities, popular entertainment, popular culture, the foundations, and they open the borders. And we have now a record of 53 million people who were not born in the United States, at 16 percent of the population. So, that in itself is a condemnation of their agenda. And if you tell them you can win if you go back to ’96 and `96, I don’t mean necessarily win an election, but you’ll be competitive with the Bill Clinton agenda, they would rather lose than win with something like that because they’re not — they’re unhinged. Doesn’t mean they’re not dangerous and doesn’t mean they can’t do a lot of damage. You’re right about that. Everybody has to take them seriously. They have to register. They have to get out to vote. And these are very dangerous people and they’re very ignorant people. They have degrees, but they’re not educated. Ignorant — ignorant and arrogant is a very dangerous combination. And they’re both. HANNITY: How does it play out in the midterm, Victor? HANSON: I think — well, 39 of the last 41 midterms, the end party loses. But there’s some things that are terrifying the Democrats, and one of them is the redistricting is favoring Donald Trump, and the gerrymandering Supreme Court ruling is favoring him. The economy on inflation, on unemployment on the stock market and foreign investment is looking up. If the war would end say in three weeks, the price of oil would go down to $ 60 or $ 70, and the price of gas below $ 3. And then this is a very easy party to run against. Not that you don’t take them seriously but what they are saying is deranged and then people will not like it once they hear it. And the Republicans have also outraised them in most of the senate and congressional districts. If they just play their clips, they don’t have to do a hit piece. All they have to do is run ads with their own words and say, “Do you want this?” It would be a replay of, you know, the one that was really brilliant on the Trump campaign in 2024. They are for they/them and we are for you. And if they just do that, they can win. And that’s why the Democrats are terrified. They think they had it in the bag and historically they should have, but that — it’s not at all sure that they’re going to win. I think it’s 50/50 or 55/45 the Republicans. It’s getting better each week if they can just get out of the war. Yeah. HANNITY: And I think eviscerating the president — I know President Trump pretty well. He’s had it. He has had it. And when I quoted “Gladiator” earlier to my friend Kevin Corke, he’s now telling everybody, unleash hell. Get ready, you know, buckle up because I — he doesn’t make idle threats like that. All right, Victor Davis Hanson — HANSON: No, he’s given him a he’s given him a chance to negotiate, too. And they didn’t take it. So, they’re going to they sowed the wind and they’re going to reap the whirlwind. HANNITY: You — they will — they will reap the whirlwind. Yes, sir. Victor Davis Hanson, thank you.
