Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, in conversation with podcaster Hasan Piker ahead of tomorrow’s primary election, commented on Democrats like John Fetterman and James Carville criticizing the rise of Democratic Socialism inside the party. “James Carville is fantasizing about leaving the party,” Piker said. “I’m like, you’re sweetening the deal!” “James Carville architected the complete right-wing ascent to neoliberalism in 1996,” El-Sayed added. “Why does anybody still listen to James Carville? He said one smart thing, once. And he seems to have forgotten it, which is ‘It’s the economy, stupid.’ Buddy, it’s the economy, stupid! You wonder why people are pissed off?” “Both parties take money from all the same people to do all the same errands when they get elected, and then no one can afford sh-t, and you wonder why everyone is mad.” “So some of us step in and say if we didn’t take money from corporations, maybe we could actually solve some of these problems,” El-Sayed continued. “And he steps in and says, ‘I can’t accept that in my party.’ Uhh, it’s the economy, stupid!” Hat tip to Clipping Wings, here’s the full conversation:
