“Politics War Room” co-hosts James Carville and Al Hunt take viewer questions about the midterm elections. “He’s going to get the living sh*t kicked out of him,” Carville said of Trump and the midterm elections. “And it is going to change everything. The way people look at the United States, the way they feel about themselves. This fist is coming and it’s headed right for his jaw.”

AL HUNT, CO-HOST: John in Chicago, that’s distinct from Gurney, Illinois. John says if Trump interferes with the upcoming elections, what will the recourse be for Democrats? The courts might make a ruling, but the D.O.G. won’t support it. Our military won’t step in. Is this a prelude to a civil war? John, that’s a serious question. That’s not something that can be easily dismissed. It’s never happened in the last 150 years in American politics. It’s different. I think the only answer that I think the Democrats have to have the best lawyers working on this. But the only answer is a huge turnout, a massive, massive turnout, a massive victory that even friendly courts will have trouble ignoring. JAMES CARVILLE: So let’s take a lapse and let’s imagine what it’s going to be like. And on a Wednesday after the election, he’s going to try everything. He’s going to try to do that. And let’s say you’re a Republican. You hung on. You’re from a power plus 11 district. All right. You’re a Republican senator or anything or an opinion maker. And you say how bad the party’s beat. And you just want to get this behind you and get on with the next election. And he’s going to keep dragging you. By the way, people are like, I don’t want to refight this battle. We’ve already decided this. And he’s massive. He’s going in with a 30, let’s just be generous. He has a 34% approval now. One of the great parlor games is the date that you have two polls and have him below 30. I don’t know. But some people say, well, it can’t happen. It just can’t go that low. Other people say so. We will dutifully report when we see two polls and have a 30 approval. But it’s going to be so hard to do that. And it’s going to be really hard to do that under what the political conditions are going to be in mid-November of 2026. I know what happened on January 6th traumatized people. It traumatized me. We all thought it was going to be consequential. They’ll never come back from this. Lo and behold, they came back. Then he gets, he mentioned Butler and he thinks he’s divine. And the only people that think more that Trump is more divine than Trump himself are the Democrats. He’s going to get the living sh*t kicked out of him. And it is going to change everything. It’s going to change everything. It’s going to change room temperature. It’s going to change just the way people look at it. The way people look at the United States, the way they feel about themselves. This fist is coming and it’s headed right for his jaw. HUNT: Well, Claire in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey is not so sure. She says, good question. Can you explain why we should be so excited about a blue wave given how Trump has acted so far? His party controls everything and yet he still ignores them. He declares war without congressional approval. He builds a ballroom without approval. He issues tariffs without approval. He appoints cronies without approval. Why won’t it just be more of the same, even with a Democratic Congress? CARVILLE: Because when you have the authority and intervention of an election, it makes it very difficult. And the Republican Party, not all of them, but some are going to want to get on with this. They’re going to want to move on to 28. They’re going to want to fight bathroom legislation and track meet sh*t and all of the stuff that they prioritize. And this is going to dominate everything. And they’re going to figure out that it is not in their interest anymore. Plus, he’s an 81-year-old fat old man who I’m not even a, I’m not Dr. Reiner or anything. Never tell me that guy doesn’t have coronary artery disease or some severity. And they’re going to say, man, f*ck that. He’s not, we’re not, he’s not part of where we’re going as a party or anything else. And they’re going to change. You cannot, I come back and I’m different from New Jersey. You know, we’ll see, we’ll talk about it on the Wednesday after the election, but the whole world is going to change in early November. It’s just going to change.
